How Much Do Wedding Flowers Cost in Bozeman & Big Sky?

I can’t tell you how many times I get asked this question.

And the annoying florist answer is: it depends.

A wedding with two attendants, six dinner tables, and a few beautiful ceremony pieces is very different from a 150-person wedding with twelve bridesmaids, a full floral aisle, statement bar flowers, and installations.

So instead of pretending there’s one magic number, let’s talk real numbers.

What Should You Budget for Wedding Flowers?

A common rule of thumb is around 10–15% of your total wedding budget, but that is absolutely not a law.

I’ve had couples who wanted flowers to make everything feel pretty and finished, but they weren’t the main event.

And I’ve had couples who would happily sacrifice dessert, entertainment, and possibly dinner itself before giving up the flowers.

Both are valid.

Here’s what different floral budgets can realistically look like in Bozeman and Big Sky.

$2,000–$4,000

This is usually a great range for à la carte flowers.

Think:

• Bridal bouquet

• Small wedding party

• Boutonnieres

• A few ceremony pieces

• Petite reception arrangements or bud vase collections

One thing to watch: a large bridal party can eat through this budget very quickly.

Personally, I’d rather see you carry a gorgeous bouquet and have beautiful flowers behind you during your vows than spend $1,000 on bridesmaid bouquets that are going to be out of water in the Montana sun all afternoon.

Micro bouquets or single stems for bridesmaids? Very cute. Very smart.

Put the money where the photos happen.

$4,000–$8,000

Now we have a little more room to play.

You may be able to include:

• Personal flowers

• Floral meadows or aisle pieces

• Ceremony focal flowers

• Cocktail arrangements

• Petite and standard centerpieces

• Bar flowers

• Delivery and setup

This budget also works well for repurposing.

Aisle meadows can often move to the reception. Ceremony flowers can become dance floor flowers. One arrangement gets two lives. We love an efficient queen.

$8,000–$12,000

This is where the wedding starts feeling more layered and customized.

You may have fuller centerpieces, more substantial ceremony flowers, candles, bar flowers, welcome-sign florals, head-table moments, and more styling throughout the space.

For a smaller wedding — especially under 60 guests — this can create a really luxurious floral experience.

$12,000–$20,000+

Now we’re entering full-service floral design.

This may include:

• Custom floral design

• Premium flowers

• Larger ceremony installations

• Full tablescape styling

• Fireplace or bar installations

• Specialty vessels and rentals

• Larger design teams

• Delivery, setup and strike

And yes, labor becomes a much bigger part of the budget here.

By this point we may have multiple people processing thousands of stems, prepping containers, cleaning candle wax, loading vehicles, installing flowers and coming back late at night to take everything apart again.

Flowers are glamorous.

The back of the delivery van at midnight? Slightly less glamorous.

What Actually Makes Wedding Flowers Expensive?

The Number of Pieces

Every bouquet, boutonniere, centerpiece, aisle marker and cocktail arrangement adds product and labor.

Your guest count matters too. More guests usually means more tables, and more tables means more centerpieces, candles,s and decor.

This is why a 50-person wedding can sometimes have incredibly lush flowers for the same budget that feels stretched at a 175-person wedding.

Flower Selection + Seasonality

You may adore peonies.

I adore peonies.

Peonies, unfortunately, do not care about our feelings.

They have a season.

I once had an October bride who absolutely wanted peonies. I called wholesalers I didn’t even know existed, trying to find them. I eventually tracked some down — possibly the final peonies remaining on planet Earth — and the cost was wild.

A better strategy is usually to give your florist your color palette, feeling, and overall Style, and let them choose the best flowers available that week.

You might discover a flower you love even more. 

Floral Style + Scale

A lush, garden-inspired arrangement filled with texture, movement and delicate ingredients takes very different mechanics and flower quantities than a simple round arrangement of roses and hydrangea.

Wildflower-inspired designs can look effortless.

They are not effortless.

That “I just wandered through a Montana meadow and casually gathered this” look requires quite a bit of design work.

Why Do Big Sky Weddings Cost More?

Big Sky is beautiful.

It is also up a mountain.

Flowers, containers, candles, staff and equipment all have to get there.

Big Sky and Paradise Valley weddings often involve longer travel times, limited setup windows, venue restrictions, additional staff, and sometimes very long wedding days.

I’ve worked events where the day started around 7 a.m., strike happened at midnight, and then everyone still had to drive back to Bozeman, after being pelted with the sprinklers that went off at midnight! 

That labor has to be built into the price — and I want our team paid well enough that they actually want to come back next weekend.

• Know approximately what pieces you need

• Don’t need complicated installations

• Want beautiful professional flowers without the full custom-design process

You choose your palette and floral pieces, and we choose the best seasonal flowers available.

For simpler weddings, pickup may even make sense.

And yes, sometimes Aunt Lisa can absolutely put the centerpieces on the tables.

Full Service Floral Design

Full service is for weddings that need a much more customized approach.

Think custom palettes, specialty flowers, ceremony installations, styled tables, candles, larger floral moments, complex venue logistics, and strike.

This is where we’re designing the entire floral experience rather than simply selecting individual pieces.

Where Should You Spend Your Flower Budget?

After doing a lot of weddings, these are the places I would prioritize.

Your bridal bouquet.
It may be the most photographed floral piece of the entire day.

Your ceremony focal point.
Think about the photo you’ll eventually frame in your house. It’s probably your ceremony, first kiss, or the moment immediately afterward.

Put flowers there.

The bar.
People underestimate the bar. Everyone gathers there, conversations happen there,e and it ends up in a surprising number of photos.

Highly photographed areas.
Spend where your guests — and your photographer — will actually notice it.

And where would I spend less?

Bathroom flowers.

Please save your money.

Huge bridesmaid bouquets.

Flower crowns for toddlers who will remove them approximately fourteen seconds after you put them on.

And dozens of tiny bud vases spread so thinly across a room that no one can actually see the flowers.

I’d rather mix a few beautiful arrangements, candle collections, and bud vases so the room feels intentional.

How Can You Make Your Flower Budget Go Further?

Choose a color palette instead of exact flower varieties.

Use seasonal flowers.

Repurpose ceremony flowers where it makes sense.

Mix larger statement arrangements with smaller pieces.

Use candles for additional visual impact.

Concentrate flowers in the areas that will be photographed most.

And most importantly: give your florist a little creative freedom.

That’s usually when the really beautiful stuff happens.

When Should You Book Your Montana Wedding Florist?

For most Bozeman and Big Sky weddings, I recommend booking around 6–9 months before your wedding.

For larger full-service weddings, or weddings over roughly $20,000 in flowers, booking earlier helps.

For simpler à la carte weddings, 4–6 months is often plenty.

So…How Much Should You Spend?

There really isn’t one right number.

If you have $2,500, we can talk about where that money will make the biggest impact.

If you have $20,000, we can create a much more immersive floral experience.

The important thing is figuring out what matters most to you and spending there instead of checking off every traditional wedding-flower box because Pinterest told you to.

Beautiful weddings don’t necessarily have flowers everywhere.

They have flowers in the right places.
